The Downtown Partnership
Baltimore, Maryland, USA
The Downtown Baltimore Partnership, a non-profit business development group, was seeking to draw visitors up into the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, away from Baltimore's popular Inner Harbor tourist destinations. Two Twelve's signage developed for that neighborhood and the adjacent City Center district became prototypes for the overall pedestrian wayfinding system that has now extended to most of the neighborhoods of Downtown Baltimore. The mapping and signing of these districts helped to define the boundaries of Downtown, clearly demonstrating that Baltimore's Downtown has grown well beyond the historic commercial core at the foot of Charles Street. Our finished signage scheme includes color-coded pedestrian directions to destinations, districts and transportation and information kiosks with the now-ubiquitous city map and rich stories about the area's neighborhoods and most notable landmarks. In the process, our identity for Downtown was adopted as the identity of the Partnership as well.
