Waikiki Business Improvement District Association
The Waikiki Business Improvement District Association was formed in 2001 to address Waikiki’s declining image as an aging resort destination. As part of a Capital Improvements Program, the WBIDA asked Two Twelve to develop a new logo and identity program as well as an orientation map that would enhance the pedestrian experience and unify Waikiki’s public spaces. Two Twelve’s goals for the identity design were to reflect WBIDA’s core values of stewardship and hospitality, to communicate a renewed sense of place and Hawaiian culture in Waikiki, and to deliver an identity that was at once innovative in form and practical in implementation. Consulting with Hawaiian illustrator Sig Zane, we created a new logo, standards manual, and map that pay homage to Waikiki’s cultural heritage while accomplishing the goals of the WBIDA.
