Smoking Prohibition
In 2003, New York City’s Department of Health wanted to remind New Yorkers that “no smoking” was now the rule in the City’s 22,000 bars and restaurants. Two Twelve designed an easily recognizable no-smoking sign using a blue, black and white color scheme, a simple layout and and a sans-serif type to keep the message clear and authoritative—without being authoritarian. The design, which also offers the number for New York City’s Quitline, is strong enough to work in any public bar or restaurants without getting lost. This is the first in a series of signs we have developed for the City's public health communications: protecting New Yorkers by persuading them.
