Radio City Music Hall
At Radio City Music Hall, modern building codes presented a distinctive dilemma: how to make the building signage code-compliant while still preserving historic character. To answer this challenge, we commissioned acclaimed type design Jonathan Hoeffler to develop a proprietary typeface from the few letters on an extant Art Deco sign. The typeface and seven stylized pictograms were used on the glass and bronze signs which were an elegant component of Hugh Hardy’s extraordinary restoration of this New York City landmark.
